The Studio has been established for twenty years and has built up a reputation for the quality of jewellery and silverware produced. Situated in a beautiful spot, in the village of Achnasheen, at the head of Strath Bran the Studio makes an ideal stop in any journey taking you through the northwest highlands. Susan graduated from The Glasgow School of Art with a B.A. (Hons.) in Jewellery and Silversmithing and spent time teaching traditional jewellery skills, so she is used to being watched! She specialises in fine enamelled jewellery using ancient techniques and has many examples of original one-off pieces on display in the shop. Susan also welcomes individual commissions from customers. Inspiration for the designs created in the workshop come from the surrounding area and have a timeless and universal appeal .
Complementing the jewellery, the shop also offers visitors a comprehensive choice of quality, contemporary crafts. There are unique wraps and jackets made from hand woven Harris tweed and especially designed pictish jumpers in Scottish wool exclusive to The Studio. There are ceramics, prints and sculptures. There is also an assortment of books, mostly of particular interest to the Highland traveller or related to the crafts, and all those holiday essentials like film, maps and postcards which make this a practical as well as rewarding stop for every visitor.
In january 2000 we laid the foundation blocks for our new Cafe which is built onto the rear of the workshop. It has open views north, west and south. On a clear day we can see Ben Eighe in one direction and Ben Wyvis in the other.
The furniture was made in native woods; beech, sycamore, alder and scots pine, and can seat 24 people. There is a Scandinavian woodburner to keep us all warm in the winter and an original Italian expresso/cappuccino maker to satisfy the coffee gourmets among us.Our menu includes freshly made hot soups, salads, baked potatoes and homebaked cakes, biscuits and scones all made on the premises. We use only organic, fresh and free range produce in our kitchen.
Access is simple, parking plentiful and you will find The Studio open all year, although during the winter it is advisable to phone first. So when your travels take you through Achnasheen be sure to call in here, you'll be pleasantly surprised by both the quality and choice on display at The Studio.
